Shaggy Jenkins was born and grew up in Gaston County, NC. Graduating from Bessemer City High School in 1995, Shaggy attended Gaston College in 1996 to pursue originally TV, but then going onto radio. The name “Shaggy” came from these years and was first used as his on-air moniker in the fall of 1996 at the college radio station, WSGE 91.7FM. “Chatty” Hattie Leeper was the Dean of Communications at the time, and is Shaggy’s mentor and as he calls it “second mama.”
